PHILEXPORT DAVAO SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED SAGING, ATBP. BANANA FORUM AND BUSINESS MATCHING EVENT
The Philippine Exporters Confederation (Region XI Chapter), Inc. or PHILEXPORT DAVAO successfully conducted the SAGING, ATBP. BANANA FORUM AND BUSINESS MATCHING EVENT on October 24-25, 2019 at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, Davao City.
Attended by Cardava, Saba and Lacatan farmers and other industry stakeholders from different regions of the country, the event was staged to give way to the non-Cavendish banana varieties that is currently facing great demand both from the local market and importing countries.
Ms. Marizon Loreto, Executive Director of the PHILEXPORT DAVAO declared that the said activity which also included a Mini-Exhibit and Business Matching Session, was received with great interest and enthusiasm from the non-cavendish banana players as this was the first ever event held in many years.
Resource persons were on hand to share important information on the prospects of the industry in the global market, the natural farming methodologies and mitigating practices to confront the banana diseases. Discussion was also focused on the technological aspects of producing Cardava, Saba and Lacatan banana varieties as well as the commercial production requirements. Relevant support programs like global standards compliance, crop insurance and protection and access to financial support were also deliberated during the two-day forum.
The activity was also meant to ventilate the need to institutionalize the whole banana industry groups and for industry stakeholders to engage themselves so as to sustain their business operation.
PHILEXPORT Davao’s banana forum this year was a sequel of the previous Banana conferences held every year, giving way to industry players to meet and exchange information that are beneficial to their sector.
With the staging of the said event, government partners and private sector were on hand to provide support and assistance which contributed to its success. /msl
