The Banana Conference 2017

The Banana Conference 2017 held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier on October 12-13, 2017 was significantly successful.

The objectives of the conference were remarkably achieved.  Banana growers/exporters and industry stakeholders were given a better perspective of the current status of the industry. The production to marketing challenges were defined and measures were recommended to confront the issues on hand, such as, but not limited to disease and pestilence, changing weather, containerization, increase in the number of players, stiff market competition, quality improvement, spot market, exchange rates, duties and speed and interconnectivity of markets.

Challenges were posed by the Resource Persons to the conference attendees on the concrete and strategic moves to undertake and fastrack industry recovery and attain inclusive growth.

The topics discussed ranged from business security measures, structural reforms for export facilitation, market competition, financing access, quality and technology breakthroughs and traceability requirements. First-rate speakers/resource persons presented relevant inputs and information to provide the delegates with the right perspective on the status and prospects of the banana industry.

The open forum elicited questions related to the plight of the small banana growers/exporters and the opportunities that lie ahead for the industry. More specific questions were focused on the assistance programs intended for the small industry players.
